One of my xbox controllers broke. Before it did break, it would keep disconnecting every few minutes (even though it is wired). Then eventually it wouldn't work anymore, so then i lifted the controllers wire up and it started to disconnect and reconnect etc. Then it just broke i opened up the controller but i don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

Notaru, I'm not an expert by any means but I was having some controller problems and took mine apart for sticky buttons... That's beside the fact but when you take your controller apart just make sure that the cord is still connected to the circuitboard inside with no breakages. Then, put the controller back together and get some air duster in the can and thoroughly clean all your controller ports. A lot of people think this doesn't work, but it does and will save you from Frankensteining your controller.

A friend of mine sent me to this website when I needed a new controller. Free shipping in North America $5.00 international i believe. I ordered two new controllers for $35.00!

I think what sadclown285 means is you should try to clean your controller a bit before trying anything drastic

Here's a good tutorial on that - http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Controller_Cleaning.htm

To me what you are describing sounds like a short somewhere. When you say "Lifted the controllers wire" what place are you talking about? Is it where the wire goes into the controller, somewhere along the wire or where the port plugs in to the Xbox?

If it's by the Xbox controller port it may only be some dirt or debris messing up the connection. Use a dry q-tip (cotton swab) or a piece of tissue carefully in the port to clean the contacts. Then do the same on the controller plug also.

If there is a short at a specific place in the wire you could try to do a patch job on it if you've got any skill with a soldering iron and wires. After all the Xbox Controller only has 5 wires.

Ditch the Microsoft controller and use the playstation2 controllers on your xbox!!!

--- We all know most Xbox controllers are junk... If you drop it it's done. There are too many common problems with these controllers to list. Lets face it, Most of us have a either a box full of or at least 2 dead or slightly defective xbox controllers. This problem is easily solved... Although Sony's PS2 systems where just cheap junk, the controllers where solid, you could throw them against a wall several times and they would still perform. The solution is a PS2 to XBox controller converter. Microsoft made a great system with worthless cheap controllers and Sony did the exact opposite, a worthless cheap system with quality controllers. (What a shame!) I found these PS2 to Xbox converters for $10 with free shipping... They used to only be $5. I have ordered several for people over the last 2 years from them. They are still the cheapest I could find. The only downfall is they ship from China so it takes 2 to 3 weeks for it to arrive. If you are patient you will be happy that you wont be buying a new Xbox controller every couple of months.

Also check ebay! You may get a better deal!

Yeah and just remember that your controller slots on the xbox are clean and dust free too, bc I had the same problem you're describing and was getting ready to junk the controllers... Got some air duster, sprayed the controller slots on the xbox and the controller problem was gone.

Never had a dead xbox controller myself, although i did break the analog stick on one (But that was due to me stepping on it after one too many ).

As for attempting to fix it, i would say first to check the break-away cable (Use a knife or something flat to open the plastic on it, and check to see if all the wires are still in place). If they are, do the same inside the controller. I know its only basic advice but you dont want to go ape with the soldering iron, because 8/10 times something goes wrong (Coming from personal experience XD)

LMAO very funny rant there Maskedmodder. I've never had a problem with my Xbox controllers, but I have had a problem with 3rd party xbox controllers. Though I have to admit those PS/PS2 to Xbox Adapters look really cool...especially for 10 bucks.

You can even use PS2 steering wheel controllers.

I have tottaly switched over after spending a small fortune replacing junk microsoft controllers. Microsoft controllers are so sensitive, if you drop one, forget about it, if its corded, there WILL be a short, and if you just use it, the analog sticks become defective, and tend to stick in a particular direction. Those things are so crappy you could blow on it and permanantly damage one...

Well as I said "if you know your way around a soldering iron" - you could just shorten the cord.
