Not trying to sound like a spammer or anything, but this is the best deal i've found so far on an IDE hard drive.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/484049-REG/Western_Digital_WD5000JBRTL_500GB_PATA_Internal_Hard.html

tested myself and easily locked with xboxhdm

Thats a O.K. deal... as long as it is new in sealed box, for that price.

I purchased my 1TB Xbox back-up drive for $64. And that was including shipping.

I have modded several Xboxs Using a variety of HDDs.
Most drives support the security locking feature. I have never had trouble with Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, and even some white label drives. The brand to avoid like a plague would be MAXTOR. When buying a hard drive for your Xbox, you just can't go wrong with WD. They are very reliable and I haven't found one yet that wont support the lock feature. When opting for the cheaper White label... be sure it looks like a WD drive, and I can't stress it enough... BUY with a warranty! Lets face it.... No hard drive has a predetermined life span, they fail, for any number of reasons, and at any point in their life. Thats why they always tell you, " Back up your data!"

I have even saved some money for a few friends and family members by getting used Western Digitals on ebay. You can find used drives with warranty from sellers with high positive feedback for about half the price of new. Just make sure... drive comes with warranty from seller with high positive feedback.

I have never been able to find a 1TB IDE hard drive for less than 200 and I've never seen a WD 1TB IDE hard drive and I've sold PCs, parts, and customs for about 3 years now. Where the heck did you find the 1TB and what brand is it?

Oh and btw, that is brand new, includes shipping and has a 3 year warranty.

Plus if you go on ebay right now you will not find a single 1TB IDE drive

Weird, all that's coming up is HD103UJ SATA drives. I wish I could find a 1TB for less than a 100.

BTW Arizona Bay! I love Bill Hicks/Tool

It is a SATA drive.
And its not in my xbox I use it as a external Xbox back-up drive. I have both a Sata to ide adapter and a sata to usb kit. You can buy adapters for less than $5 and Usb kits with power supply for under $10.

It holds all my games, apps, xb pc software, and emus. I have a wd 250 gb in the xbox that I just delete and ftp other games in as I'm done with them.

Heres the one that I purchased...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220569477285&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I actually paid $65 for it... a dollar more than stated earlier.

In fact... If you are looking for a 1 tb drive... I seen some new ones starting at $90.... http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B001U3S5S0/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Don't act on it just yet... if you want a used one just be patient ebay items change every day... just check every three days or so and you will find a deal.

I have the adapter but I haven't tried to put a sata drive in a XBOX yet.

Like I said, I use mine as a external back up drive for my cpu and laptop.
As soon as I got it I used it to back up all games on my 320gb and a 250gb.

I think I read somewhere in another forum that the Xbox Hardware is not capable of recognizing anything larger than 500gb. I could be wrong... I'm remembering the number 750? I personaly have never done one with more than 500.

As far as the one you picked out working... not in the xbox.
But if you plan on using it as a back up drive to store games for FTP purposes, PRICELESS!!!

Not necessarily.... they are better if you want a no B.S. install with no complications.

In theory...
You should be able to use any h.d.d. with the right adapter.

I haven't tried yet, but I would like to get 2 250 to 500 GB 2.5" HDDs from old laptops... Buy a 2.5 to 3.5 IDE adapter, a special IDE cable with 4 connectors some molex splitters and a Dual pole swicth and make it so I can just flip a switch and select a HDD. Doing this with some old laptop drives should all fit into original Xbox case.

56 xbox games
3 PC ports
EVERY SINGLE Atari 2600, Atari5200, colecovision, Game gear, Gameboy/color/advance, intellivision, lynx, msx 1/2, genesis, sega master system, n64, neo geo pocket color, snes, nes, turbo grafx-16, virtual boy, wonderswan game
every capcom cps1/2/neo geo arcade game
about 5 ps1 games
about 1/6 of the MAME games

...and still have 317Gb left on my 500Gb harddrive

Just to add my 2 pennies worth. I put a 250GB drive in my XBox but I don't really keep that many games on there. I do have some emulators on there and some random ports. Like you, theMaskedXmodder, I use external HDs to store the bulk of my games. I've got about 300 games split between 2 x 500GB external drives. When I end up playing one I just burn it and then add it to my XBox cd/dvd binder I have.

Good luck with that! I still think mine worked by magic as it did not quite work the way the instructions I was following described; but it worked in the end.

I just did today that today Xmodder. I had an old 80gig 2.5, that was sitting in a usb case. I pulled it out, slapped an adapter on there, put it in my xbox, AID booted right up and I was off and away.

There is plenty of space in there. I'm thinking of doing a "slim mod" on my xbox now.

Plastix - basically what you do is,
back up eeprom with evolution-x
download xboxhdm
ftp the content of your c and e drives
click the make isowin batch file
burn image to a disc
reboot to cd-rom with hard drive as primary master
follow the steps of the disc
lock drive and replace

As I explained before... If you go to the forums... There is a proper place to put requests. Besides requests made here are much less likely to be read by someone who may potentially have the game you are looking for. They get more attention in their proper place.

So what problems have you had with Maxtors? General reliability or locking issues? I've actually put several Maxtors in my XBOXes and no problems yet. I've got probably a dozen Maxtor drives total and only 1 problem - a 120 that started randomly dropping off the bus and was replaced under warranty with no problems.

As far as using large (and SATA) drives on XBOX, I read on a forum somewhere that a guy was actually using a 2TB drive in an XBOX, but I have no idea if it was true or not.

I agree with you that the only feasible backup for XBOX games these days is an extra 1TB HDD. Even if BluRay was cheap, it would still take too many discs to backup a library that large.
