With viruses, trojans, malware, and all sorts of crazy s**t infecting pc's these days, what kind of antivirus do you guys have setup?
Your AV, firewall, whatever else you feel like sharing.
I have been using Comodo's free suite for a while and it's been pretty good to me.

Well, I use a mac so the need for an av for me is low, since most are made for windows, but when I used a pc I used something panda? Haha. All I remember was it had to do something with a panda.

All my Windows-based PCs are protected by McAfee. The 2 that get online on a daily basis also has Spybot Search and Destroy. My HTPC is the only one that just has McAfee, and I have it set to scan once a week at like 5 in the morning lol
But my computer I use on a daily basis I use Linux, so like Tobaccoo, the need for AV software is low.
In my Virtual Machine, I run XP with, I have it protected by Avast, with no firewall (no point lol) I have Avast just to test cracks and what-not with.

I don't have anti-virus software, and haven't for some time. I hate them, lagging up you computer to hell just to report no errors 99% of the time. Also the firewalls can block important ports (Such as online gameplay) and manually disabling them is absolute hassle.

There was another program I used along side with Spybot, but I fail to remember the name of it. The 2 programs together seemed to have found everything. If Spybot didn't find something, the other program did.
It boggles my mind as why McAfee doesn't pick up adware anymore :/
@ Codstr we have no problems with McAfee. Doesn't lag up the computer, if you're using an application in full-screen mode, it'll temporarily allow the program through and ask if you want to allow it in the future. It's a security flaw, but it still scans everything that the program does.

Well i used McAfee back in 2008 and hated it, was running it on a dual-core with plenty of RAM and (Although admittedly, i had 80% of the HDD used up at the time) it would just reak havoc on online browsing while scanning the drive (Youtube clips would drop considerably in framerate, quake like was barely playable, running 5 tabs at a time would make firefox un-useable) Maybe its just a personal belief of mine...
Ever since the start of 2010, I have been running on no anti-virus and there has been no trouble to report of yet. It depends on how you use the internet. Masses of spyware trial program downloads and continuously browsing on porn is a sure-fire way to slow your computer down, if you stay away from all that crap then there is no reason for your computer to be infected.

That is true, I did run my computer with no protection at all for about 2 years. I'll admit that McAfee did have troubles back in '08. I went without protection from '08 to '10. But now their software is lightweight, you have more control over it. Only downside is you can't have it ignore a particular file/folder. So, cracked games will pop up when it does the scan and quarantine it without your approval. Pain the ass. Thankfully my computer was the only one that I had cracked software on, so I just used it for a firewall and used it to block programs from accessing the Internet lol

It is. I love it. I first used it back in '04, used it up to '07, downloaded the trial for '08, hated it, like Codstr said, it was really heavy. It was when they switched to the new interface.
if there was no viruses those companies would be sol

If you use Firefox, use NoScript Add-On. It blocks everything on the Internet except for the page you see, and whatever you choose to allow. Technically, it's impossible to get viruses or any kind of threat by using solely this tiny app, since nothing can get past it unless you allow it to. That means it blocks all ads, all popups and everything else you don't want. Replaces the need to have antiviruses at all
i use the registry editor first to delete funky values then run spybot
(i do not recommend you use the editor unless you have manny many many years windows filesystem knowledge)
Kaspersky
CC-file cleaner
Malewarebytes
SUPER Anti Spyware
I only use the kaspersky when i might have an infection and the other tools won't remove it.
I got a rouge fake Anti virus program a while back and this combination - kaspersky got rid of it fully , needed a small .exe fix to run files afterwards but it did a wonderfull job.

watch alot of porn = loads of spyware.. never found a porn site that sends you a virus.. makes repeat custom abit..well non-existent
i mean why they do it is beyond me so they want to sell me something and they do that by making my pc crash everytime it loads their site..
at the moment i've got something if i press enter instead of clicking go in IE8 it redirects me through 20 or so sites ending up at either kelkoo or the nokia n7 advert on youtube.. neither one bothers me i just stopped being lazy and started clicking lol

I have no Anti Virus software either, no need for it. It is bloatware and as long as you don't get on fake pron sites or download fake games, your PC should be ok. I learned quick, don't click the "You won" adverts! Simple as that!

I used McAfee at one time, but hated how it seemed to bog down the system. I use Norton Internet Security now and can rarely tell it's even running.

How can you not tell its running? Its more of a bloatware than Windows is!

Well, it is on the taskbar, shows in the task manager, and pops right up when I want it to. Plus the firewall is active. I disagree on the bloatware aspect. The system runs smooth as silk, even when Norton is doing a scan. It's not unusual for me to be online downloading or uploading a file, playing mp3's and working on several graphic pieces in Paint Shop Pro Photo X3. Smoooooothhhh....

I've used almost every spyware / AV out there. Don't like both McAfee or Norton products. Ever tried to remove them, can F'up your system.
Right now I use Avast! Security Suite on my most important laptop. It's a good solid product and quite frankly, more reliable than their free AV version for some reason.
On my servers and other computers I may use nothing or the free AVast!, on Linux nothing is needed just a firewall with BDF and other advanced techniques is good.
On Windows computers just don't open all those weird spam emails and you should be fine but it doesn't hurt to have AV just in case.
