Title: Shin Megami Tensei Nine | 真･女神転生 NINE Developer: NexTech Corporation Publisher: Atlus Co. Ltd. Genre: Action, Role-Playing (RPG) Perspective: 3rd-Person Perspective Release Date: Dec 05, 2002 (Japan) This is not the ninth Shin Megami Tensei game; "nine" is the number of character attributes and alignments used in the game: Law, Chaos, Light, Dark, Neutral, and their variants. The game is set in the future. Tokyo, Japan's capital, was destroyed in a nuclear explosion early in the 21th century. But some years later the Tokyo of the nineties was digitally recreated. People live in a virtual world, and everything is ruled by computer programs. But some programs don't work correctly, and one day, a pop concert is disrupted by a terrible demonic vision. A special agency recruits the hero of the game, Kei (which can be either female or male, depending on your choice), to travel through the virtual world and to confront the hackers who might pull the strings behind the scene. Like in all Megaten games, demon summoning plays an important part in "Nine". You can have several parties, up to eight characters each, and form them at your wish from the demons you manage to recruit. Talking to enemies is even more important now, as you get experience points from equipping items and not from battles. You can also fuse demons to get more powerful ones. The battles are now in real time, both parties attack simultaneously, and precise timing is required. In addition, some portions of the game are occupied by virtual battles between hackers, which resemble a strategy board game. This game is 99.9% Japanese and 0.1% English. | Looks like a decent game happyjacks. How playable is it tho with being in japanese?? I tend to stick to simple things like shooters or fighters when it comes to jap games but i will probably give this a go | ||

That would be neat if some how translated to English. I've seen games in the past being able to get translated. A few PSX and DS games were able to be. I guess the game has to be made for easy translation. I love the Persona games, wouldn't mind checking this out. Wish I knew Japanese, maybe someday.

Anyone ever hear of a company called "ERGOSOFT" a subsidiary of KOEI?
I found some game files in this that have their name in it, and they seem to contain the "Battle Won" "Battle Lost" "Invited to join your team" messages if Google is giving me straight answers with its translate. The files are .DIC in the \Media\DIC folder. If I could open the files properly (opening with MS word and telling it this is some japanese encoding seems to get me part way there) then maybe we could hack together English translations of some of the gameplay critical text. ERGOSOFT seems to be gone (as of 2007 or 200 , so no luck with their site. Does anyone know what format the MGS and MGP files under \Media\Scripts are supposed to be? I can't figure them out

FYI, since Ergosoft was a subsidary of KOEI I have sent an email to KOEI's support asking if (A) There is any way to obtain Ergosoft's tools for working with Ergo Dictionary files and (B) If these dictionary files typically contain the game text, as I found a garbled version of "Battle Won", "Battle Lost" inside one of the files. If the universe decides to smile upon us, then we may need to find someone who can translate Japanese, or just be satisfied with a Google Translate version

Koei's support mailbox was full  email bounced back. Emailed Atlus and got a response. The guy said that since it was not released in Norrth America he doesn't have knowledge of the tools they used. He did search around a bit for info on the tool I mentioned (ergosoft) and wished me luck.
