Chimp 2.6
Chimp 2.6 Cover
Description
CHIMP 2.6

This program runs entirely on your modded Xbox (including v1.6 models without having to use Telnet) to allow you to hotswap the internal hard disk with another, larger, model.

You'll need a torx 10, 15 and 20 screwdriver set, a molex power splitter, a larger IDE hard disk, and a copy of your EEPROM (normally stored in E:\Backup\EEPROM on your Xbox). An official Microsoft controller, not a third party one!

Power off your Xbox and open it up. Connect the molex splitter between both your existing and new hard disks. Set the new hard disk's jumper to Slave. Power up. FTP the Chimp2168 folder into your E:\Apps folder on your Xbox. Copy the LinuxBoot.cfg file into the root of the E:\ drive. Ensure you've backed up your EEPROM using your modded dashboard. With your Xbox on and idle in the dashboard, unplug the IDE ribbon cable from the DVD drive (!) and plug it into the new hard disk. Load Chimp. Select option 1 and scroll down to confirm both drives are detected. Select option 2 to clone your existing files over to the new drive. Once that has completed, select the option to lock the new cloned disk. It will use the backed up EEPROM on the master disk to get the security key. When finished, power off. Put the IDE ribbon back onto the DVD drive and remove the old hard disk, leaving only the new one installed. Power on!

Had no luck with earlier versions of chimp, would never run on ntsc 1.4 xbox, but this looks promising. Will it run in componant or is it composite only. Thanks

Originally I used a composite connection, so as I'm now on component I've just loaded Chimp myself and clicked through to the main menu and it all worked fine, Shadow.

got a question about this guys. i have chipped xbox v1.1 with a 30gb hdd,i have managed to get my hands on larger hdd and i set up the new hdd with slayers disc. anyway the thing is i want to transfer all the files from my 30gb hdd to my new upgraded hdd.the problem is i can never get ftp connection to my xbox and i have tried. i was reading that you can put chimp 2.6 onto your xbox hdd and then connect the new hdd to your xbox dvd drive ide ribbon cable.then once it is connected you can transfer the files from the old xbox hdd into the new one via the xbox dvd drive ribbon, keeping in mind that the new drive is already configured for the xbox.i just want to use thos for file transfer between 2 xbox hdds. is this correct?

Xcalibur, you've understood correctly. Look at this thread: http://forum.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t716433.html and you'll notice that Option 2 in the screenshot is to clone all your data on your existing disk over to the new one.

doesnt cloning make a replica drive the same size regardless of how big the new drive is

No ShaunJohn, if you use a huge disk though (137GB+) don't forget to turn on G: drive support in XBMC. Chimp 2.6 lets you selectively clone just C: & E: over to the new hard disk (15 minutes), or do a full byte-by-byte copy of F: and G: too (can take all night). Any extra drive space remains available for use afterwards. I've read the code on the dev thread (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=716837) and it *looks* like Chimp formats whichever target partitions you've chosen on the new disk first, before then transferring the data from the original disk into that freshly prepared partition. Therefore, please don't put loads of tools/games on one of the new partitions and expect them to be there if you then clone data onto that partition!

@doctormobius.....i only have 30gb of files to move over and my new hdd is just 130gb prepped and ready so i dont think it would take all night just to move that amount of data surely?

I'm afraid I didn't actually produce the Chimp program guys, but from what I've read, if the new disk is already FAT-X then Chimp will only wipe the partitions you decide to clone to the new disk. If your new disk is currently formatted as a regular NTFS or FAT32 drive then it'll get completely wiped and converted to FAT-X. By the way, I swapped my IDE cable for an 80 pin version and swap copy speeds of 15MB/s, so you can do the maths...

Hey xcalibur, what chip do you have and have you ever tried using Craxtion4 to FTP or Flash FXP? Depending on how you boot the Xbox when you FTP you may have different results also. The standard PW UN is "xbox"for both, but when I FTP from my chip the UN and PW is "x3". Also if you are going directly from a PC to an Xbox you need a crossover cable NOT just an ethernet cable.

All I have to say is THANK YOU!!! I had originally upgraded my Xbox to an 80gig some years ago using xbox hard drive maker. Now that all of my machines are current I have been unable to do so until now. Confirmed working, went from 80gig to 300gig. Thanks a lot!

This was unbelievably easy to use! Drive swapped in under 20 minutes. This was my first attempt.

Thanks for uploading this. My first attempt was successful, but there were some bumps in the road. First, my TV would say "Not Supported" whenever I loaded up Chimp. I switched to composite cables and it worked fine after that. Once it was done, I rebooted only to have my Xbox stuck on the Xbox logo. Turns out I forgot to set the hard drive to master, which fixed it.

I've tried Chimp a couple of time now but keep getting the same problem - it freezes after I select the option to start cloning - if I move the d-pad or press any buttons random symbols appear at the bottom of the screen. Anyone else ever had this problem?

The new version should accept a non-microsoft controller.

I'm still trying to get Chimp working, even got another HDD to make sure it wasn't a problem with the previous one, has anyone ever had the problem where nothing happens when you click to start cloning, and if you press buttons/thumbsticks random symbols appear?!? I'm going to try using the HDD maker with a desktop but if anyone could help me that'd be amazing!!!
