This is XDSL 0.7 Beta 5 (current as 03/24/2011) with all the files neeed to boot win 98se from XDSL and easy instructions. i have included the needed: XSDL 0.7 beta 5 iso, the qemu folder, a working win98.img for qemu to load and \\\\\\\"98.sh\\\\\\\" file fixed. to load it. ALL IS FOR LOOP BABK on E: with other files placed on E: as well. NOTE WARNING NEVER \\\\\\\"UPGRADE DISPLAY\\\\\\\" from upgrades it seems to screw stuff up badly (atleast on my xbox) only apply the fix\\\\\\\'s labled Xbox v1.0 to 1.5 or the v1.6 depending on your xbox\\\\\\\'s revision. 1. Burn xdsl 0.7 beta 5 (Xdsl0.7beta0.05.iso) with your perfered CD/DVD writing program at 4x MAX, 2. Boot your softmod xbox by putting the disc in the dvd drive and rebooting the system. XDSL will load off CD, select starting off disc and select a video format that your TV supports and that !!!MATCHES YOUR XBMC SETTINGS!!!. 3. Once desktop loads, goto XDSL menue \\\\\\\"TOOLS\\\\\\\" and install to \\\\\\\"Loopback Install\\\\\\\" to E: with a swap file on E:. I suggest 896mb for loopback and 128mb for swap file, making sure to add the XBMC linux loading XBE when installer asks this allows all builtin upgrades to be installed and leaves room for perfered Email app if any, Open Office, {use 2.0.4 uci from MyDSL repositories if you do, BUT you have to \\\\\\\"local install\\\\\\\" from MyDSL browser each boot it seems for it though} and a few other apps. 4. After Xdsl is installed I SUGGEST you run all XDSL UPGRADES (!!!*** NO \\\\\\\"UPGRADE DISPLAY\\\\\\\" AS ABOVE***!!!!) by first selecting a mirror from the DSLControl Panel, and upgraded ENABLE APT-GET 1st then all upgrades in this order (after selecting a mirror in the control panel and then enabling apt-get) following any on screen instructions/wizards: Screen fix that fits your xbox revision (v1.0 to v1.5 or v1.6), GTK2, GNU utilities, sound, firefox upgrade, flash 9 (select newer \\\\\\\"slower one\\\\\\\"), java, And finally Xine if you REALLY want, Reboot XDSL and check to make sure its asll in and working 5. EXIT XDSL and go to XBMC dash to get your xbox\\\\\\\'s IP, use an FTP app on your PC to connect to your xbox on your local network/router and Transfer the Win98.img and the Qemu folder to the ROOT of E: Drive on Xbox. 6. **NOW HERE IS THE BIG ISSUE>>> on your pc open notepad and paste this in EXACTLY as is: #!/bin/bash echo Loading Windows 98... -m.e sudo /mnt/hda50/qemu/qemu -L /mnt/hda50/qemu/ -m 24 -hda /mnt/hda50/win98.img -full-screen -enable-audio Save this file as \\\\\\\"ALL FILES TYPE\\\\\\\" named 98.sh and then.check that explorer says its an \\\\\\\"SH\\\\\\\" file type. FTP this to the ROOT of E: drive on xbox. Note that the -m 24 line is the amount of ram win 98se will have to use and you can set it as you like within reason (DO NOT SET ABOVE 40MB ON A 64MB XBOX OR DO NOT SET ABOVE 104MB ON A 128MB XBOX) 7. Run xdsl on your Xbox and in an Xterminal type: \\\\\\\"sh /mnt/hda50/98.sh\\\\\\\" without the quotations and hit enter now win98 should start up with the memory you set it to have. You can exit win98 via \\\\\\\"shutdown\\\\\\\" as normal to go back to xdsl. I hope this helps!! PS: **note the -m 24 - is the amount of memory win98 will see and you can change it as you like, some people report 40mb will work on a stock xbox upto 104mb on an xbox with 128mb of ram****, ANYONE that can find out how to make a new image of win98 (the win98.img for qemu) that has the final versions of IE and FireFox (and perhaps Opera) web browsers for Windows 98SE (old versions will give \\\\\\\"last version for win 98se for MANY apps) and the last version of MSN messenger. This would be Great, also can anyone \\\\\\\"write\\\\\\\" files to the win 98 \\\\\\\"C: drive\\\\\\\" i have not tried alot as i only have a softmod 64mb xbox so its a little slow, but when i try to download with firefox i get greyed out options to \\\\\\\"save to disk\\\\\\\" or \\\\\\\"open with\\\\\\\" . Well that finishs my posting/updating info on Win98se on XDSL via qemu, i hope it helped some people and PLEASE ANY ONE THAT CAN.. KEEP UPDATING THIS SO IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER, also off topic please someone make an XBMC app to read simple text, word doc\\\\\\\'s and pdf\\\\\\\'s, thanks a ton |

| hi, this will launch as an "app" if installed via "loop back", its the xcromwell" linux app that is installed from running the live dvd (boot xbox with the dvd in drive, make sure media matchs your dvd-rom or use the "pc dvd rom trick"). I did not 100% "make" this, i edited and "fixed" it, to best of my ability in about an hour. More work is needed, to update web browser #1 with CURRENT flash support and the ability to use a browser mordern enough to go to "youtube" and watch videos, this is needed for both xdsl and win98se via qemu. Also i think the "format" of the 98se image is wrong... its "read only" perhaps or it thinks its a dvd?. This will be the file i post too as it has a pic and most downloads (i mistakenly uploaded 3 times). Please make suggestions and fixes and post the updatyes with links here | ||
