Installing a SATA HDD into Xbox by Floydthebarber
Okay I created two videos for this tutorial. It is simply the installation of a SATA HDD, this is quite an easy process, but I thought I would just show the process because people seem to be really weary about installing a SATA HDD into their Xbox's. So hopefully these videos give some people the confidence to go ahead and do it, because it is definitely well worth it.

There you have it.

Here is the link to the dealextreme SATA to PATA adapter if you want one. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/sata-to-ide-hard-disk-mini-vertical-bridge-adapter-card-12537

I assume that even though this is a new video, that the adapter sourced from DX is one that you've had for some time as I have taken receipt of 4 such adapters in the last month and they are all revision 1.0 units and it seems that you need revision 3.0 or 3.1 units for use in the Xbox.

@BuNtEr you use whatever size you want, as long as it's not over 2 terabyte. @Biomorph I haven't had this adapter for long at all actually, I don't know anything about the revisions, but I couldn't see how a later revision wouldn't be compatible with the Xbox. It would still do the exact same thing. Have the jumper setting on your HDD set to cable select (just read how to do this on your HDD, there should be a sticker showing you how) and plug in the adapter and you should be good to go.

Wait a second, I was thinking of an IDE HDD with the jumper set to cable select setting. Its the adapter that needs to be set to cable select setting when using a SATA HDD. I personally didn't have to change a thing when I got the adapter though, it was ready to go, so most likely it would be the same for anyone else.

@Floydthebarber, does you adaptor have three sets of jumpers for Master/Slave/CS selection?

Biomorph!! I agree. I ordered some not to long ago and found them to be different on the board then the ones I got before. The initial boot is extremely long and sometimes they fail on boot with a error code. The jumpers are in the same place on both variations of them though.

Actually that youtube video posted above is how long it takes to boot. The first ones I bought boot 20 times faster then that.

@Biomorph I know for sure that it has the Cable Select selection (Pins 1 + 3), I would gather that it has the other two selections as well, but I am not totally sure which pins to use to get the other two selections, sorry. It is a four pin with jumper setup. Sorry for the late reply too, I haven't had internet access in a while.

@Floydthebarber Would I use a 2.5'' or 3.5'' sata hdd? I heard I have to make it into small partition or something if it's over a certain size. Do you know anything about that? If I'm upgrading my hdd, can I back up my games and save data on my old hdd?
