USA Premium and Lite Users: Get MUCH Faster Download Speeds! by JaMbo87
Hi Folks!

I have been getting a lot of emails from our users over in America that the download speeds are slow and not what they expected.

This is caused by the distance from the server to the user (The Netherlands to the USA) but it is easily fixed.

When you download using your browser, you will only utilise 1 connection to the server - this is causing the slow speeds.

As a Premium or Lite user, you are allocated a maximum of 12 simultanious connections to the server, with free users only having 1.

This means, if you are downloading at 100KBps from the usa, you will be able to get 12x100KBps - 1200KBps!

How to do it

First off, you will need the following programs:

Free Download Manager - get it here http://files.freedownloadmanager.org/lite/fdminst-lite.exe
The lates Firefox browser (Which I'm sure you already have)

Once you have installed the Free Download Manager, you need to make sure it will automatically 'Monitor' the firefox browser by going to options > settings > monitoring and make sure the firefox box is ticked.

Then, go to options > settings > network and make sure 'Maximum number of connections per one server' is set to 12

You're now good to go - just go to the download page, click the fast download link as usual and Free Download Manager will automatically load. Click OK on the popup window to start downloading

I will post this in the news section as well as the tutorials section so it gets seen

Hope that helps - Happy downloading

Regards,
JaMbo87

JaMbo87 will you please help me get faster downloading speeds? I followed all directions and am still getting on average 50-100 kbps. I have a Premium paid subcription and don't see the point of continuing to have one if this is the most speed I am going to get.

If you have a bandwidth cap such as 1mb you're not going to exceed those speeds unfortunately. An application which causes multiple streams or 'bits' from the server won't increase your speed but rather divide your speed per transfer so rather than 100kb/s you'll download four pieces at 25kb/s. The upload speed from the server is slow because of the amount of activity here and people haven't used download management applications since dial up.

Its funny how people dont realize they are the ones at fault for the errors they encounter. You would think that after even just 10 other members make good references and have no troubles it might sink in that they are the cause of the problems.

As much as I hate to made this thread a Zombie, I feel I must. I've had no issues here in the USA with Download speeds, if you are still having download speed issues I suggest you exit all torrent applications, (ex. uTorrent), as it tends to DESTROY your bandwidth. I'm usually able to download as a premium at 2.5+ Mbps
