Tremendous Download Speed by dnyce13
Hello all,

Everyone is probably aware of Jambo87's Tutorial on how to improve speed if you're an American bandwidth user. For the people who have already read his tutorial and still cannot get MAJOR improvement in download speed READ ON:

I have recently became a Premium user on this website and now am unlocking the full capabilities of downloading (FINALLY!). I couldn't get Free Download Manager to work properly integrated with FireFox according to Jambo87's tutorial. So I stumbled upon a forum on the dcisozone side and seen somebody post Orbit Downloader and I was curious to see what it was about. After downloading and installing it...I never looked back to Free Download Manager. I now get up to 1MBPS and sometimes more on rare occassions when downloading. I downloaded a 1GB Xbox Iso in under a half an hour if you need to picture how fast I'm talking about. So google Orbit Downloader and if you have FireFox it will not work(unless I am doing something wrong) as I've already tried this myself. It should automatically integrate with Internet Explorer(Get the latest Internet Explorer for even better speed). After it does, you really don't have to mess with the configuration of Orbit Downloader as everything is already checked. If not then make sure the following are checked for maximum performance:

Go to Preferences>

Under Download/Connection:

.1 Connection to the original URL- Make sure it is 10
.2 Max connections per job - Make sure it is 60

Under Limits Check the following:

.1 No speed limit

Under Accelerate Check the following:

.1 Enable Orbitnet to accelerate download speed
.2 Use mirror connections to accelerate download speed
.3 Use peer connections to accelerate download speed
.4 Try to download from P2P and mirror resources when the target URL does not exist

After these simple steps you are GOLDEN! Happy Downloading to everybody and please feel free to comment =).

Odd. I can get over 1.2MB/sec (about as close to the stated 10Mbit as possible) on a 15Mbps connection using Free Download Manager and Firefox (I got about 850KB/sec on a 7Mbps connection). Wonder what the difference is? Now if we just had a similar system for uploads...

Hey dentman42 did you upload X-men - The Original Movie xbox game? I can't even extract it. Yeah it's odd(referring to your comment now) but for some reason it wouldn't work for me under FireFox and wouldn't integrate at all. I'm sure if it did it would probably work. It didn't come across to me to try it with Internet Explorer to see if it worked. But nonetheless, I have no problems at all now.

Right click on the floating FDM icon in the lower right corner of the screen and make sure that browser monitoring is enabled. Also, make sure under options - download options on the monitoring tab that Firefox is checked. I've installed it on 3 machines with no problem (all running XP, 1 home and 2 pro). I uploaded XMEN: The Official Game. It's compressed with a recent (probably the latest) version of 7zip using Ultra compression. I did test the archive that I uploaded, but the test disc I burned was before I recompressed it. I can download it and make sure it didn't get corrupted in transit.

See my message about extracting XMEN:TOG in the comments for part 1 and 2.

Definitely seems better than FDM. FDM was actually slower than straight DL'ing. In this initial test with Orbit, it's pushing close to 1MBPS. Thanks!

Hm, 'friad I'm not getting faster download....in fact, I'm getting slower. The newest version supports other browsers now, but with FDM, I was getting around 350-360 KB/s download, and with Orbit, I'm getting 280-330 KB/s. At first I was thinking that maybe its because I'm working over a wireless network, but come to think of it, when I download torrents, I get around 500-600 KB/s...on good torrents.
